The Hill’s History

Garman Hill began in the late 1800's when S.D. and Mary Kathryn Garman chose to settle in Wilder, Idaho, instead of continuing their journey west. It became the first official homestead of Canyon County, and for over four generations the Garman family worked the land, raising orchards, gardens, and livestock while becoming deeply woven into the community.

Houston (grandson) and Nadine Garman knew the beauty of the land and built a home that overlooks the fields and Owyhee Mountains. In 2022, they passed the land to the fifth generation, where Greg (great great grandson) and Kris Garman saw an opportunity to preserve the homestead from development and honor it's agricultural history by sharing its beauty with others via an event venue.

Greg’s battle with cancer ended in 2023 but he cherished his short time on the hill.  Today, Kris continues her original vision by opening Garman Hill as a modern venue rooted in history, community, and the breathtaking Idaho landscape.

Now residing on the hill besides Kris are the sixth generation of the Garman family, Lauren and Brooke who are the great, great, great granddaughters of S.D. and Mary Kathryn.
